| Slippers was a little Tabby who never asked to be rescued. One Summer day, she was coaxed away from the neighborhood bullies by a ten year-old little girl with an icecream bar. This little girl's family was not fond of cats and told her "NO" each repeated time she asked to "bring her inside for a quick visit". One evening her parents finally gave in and said that the half grown kitten could come inside their home for fifteen minutes and have a slice of cheese to eat. That fifteen minutes turned into to fifteen years and this family's life was completely fulfilled by a creature they would have never touched, loved or shared their life with unless God hadn't given this little girl the strength to continue begging for that "15 minutes". This cat's 10 year-old rescuer named her Slippers for the four white paws she had and picked out New Years Day to be her birthday. Slippers quickly won her place in each of their hearts. On New Years Eve 2004, Slippers was diagnosed with an unoperatable tumor and she slipped away and left this family's lives on Sunday, January 4th, 2004. Slippers changed this family's life by filling a space that they never knew existed and they could not have possibly loved her any more than they did right up to her last few minutes on earth. The "little girl" still rescues animals to this day and is the founder/director of Open Paws Pet Rescue. Slippers, you are deeply loved and missed. We can't wait to see your green eyes again at the bridge. P.S. Tell Bobbie, Minnie, Butterscotch and Kelsey we said hi and see if MaMa will play stick with you! |

SLIPPERS There once was this green-eyed Tabby cat Who I didn't want in my house so I told her to scat. But my young daughter kept on bringing her by So I finally said with a sigh Okay, but only fifteen minutes she may stay But for fifteen years she was with us every day. I learned a lot from this little green-eyed dear Who brought us every day nothing but cheer. Unconditional love from her was one thing I came to learn For she never asked for anything in return. Now she has gone to be with God up above And she left me with a heart full of love. I love you and miss you so much, Slippers. Author - Sherry and Slippers' Dad |
